Summary Back to Top

The sleek new 7-story Dr. Gary B. and Pamela S. Williams Tower consists of unitized curtainwall, glazed window units, metal panels, and terra cotta cladding over a uniquely curved and partially cantilevered structure. The tower serves as the new main entrance for the Summa Health System – Akron Campus and features:

  • 108 private patient rooms
  • Expanded surgery suites and patient bays including two robotic operating rooms
  • A birthing center with 17 labor and delivery rooms (including four with birthing tubs), a dedicated triage area, three operating rooms, a suite of recovery rooms for surgical deliveries, and 36 private mother and baby rooms
  • 22-bed NICU
  • The Gary and Pamela Williams Center for Breast Health, which offers 12 private exam rooms and includes a Cannon Vantage Orion MRI Unit – one of only two currently operating in the United States

The new tower was tied into the existing hospital with renovations to the existing hospital focused on upgrades to the Radiology Department, mechanical and electrical systems, and Central Sterile. Other interior renovations were included throughout the lower, ground, and 1st floor levels, as well as renovations to patient suites on the 6th and 7th levels.
